Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough – or you’re beyond relaxed already – you won’t feel much.
After a few minutes, the tingling sensation fades into a deep, relaxing warmth. The redness is purely a circulation boost. You might even fall asleep.

You don't even realize how tight and sore the base of your head is until you actually try it. One star down because one of my spikes came off, I'm sure there is a way to reattach it, but haven't figured out how just yet

Initially sharp and slightly uncomfortable but breathing through the first 2 mins helps you sink into it. I use it for my feet while working at my desk. Helpful to relieve momentary stress in my workday. I don't think I use it in conjunction w the mat as much as in its own under my desk. It wasn't a must have for my shakti experience.

This pillow is excellent for releasing tension in neck, head and legs. you can use it to stretch your neck using the pillow which is awesome. I often use it in bed while reading. i can fall asleep using eh pillow and mat. Totally reccommend the set you will gain huge benefit
